OVERVIEW
This short video explains the NZSA Member Self-Audit process, including what to expect, how your submission is reviewed, and what happens after you complete your audit.

Audit Process at a Glance
- Complete any required site visit first
If your audit covers guard services or security system installations, complete the required customer site visit before starting. Choose one of your major customer sites. For security system installations, use a recent installation where possible, ideally from within the last six months. - Complete your self-audit
Work through each section that applies to your business and upload the supporting documentation, photos, and evidence requested in the form and guidance materials. - Submit your audit
Once submitted, your responses are securely stored within the NZSA website and forwarded for independent review. - Independent auditor assigned
NZSA assigns an authorised auditor to independently review your submission. Auditors only receive access to the audits specifically allocated to them. - Auditor review
Your assigned auditor reviews your responses and supporting documentation against the NZSA Self-Audit requirements. - Clarification (if required)
If additional information or supporting documentation is required, you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to return to the relevant section of your audit and provide the requested clarification. - Audit outcome
Once the review is complete, NZSA finalises the audit and notifies you of the outcome. Depending on the review, this may include confirmation that your audit has been successfully completed or advice on any further actions required. - PDF copy for your records
A PDF copy of your completed self-audit is emailed to you for your records and future reference.
Your Privacy & Security
Your information stays within NZSA
The self-audit form is hosted within the NZSA website. It does not use a separate third-party form platform or externally hosted audit system.
Who can access my audit?
Information submitted through the form is stored within NZSA’s website database and file storage.
Access is restricted to:
- NZSA staff responsible for administering the audit programme
- Authorised website support personnel
- The auditor assigned to your audit
Auditor access is controlled through a unique secure link and audit-specific credentials. Auditors can only access the submissions that NZSA has specifically assigned to them for review.
Is my submission visible to other members?
No. Audit submissions are never publicly available and cannot be viewed by other NZSA members.
How we protect your information
The self-audit system has been designed with security in mind. Measures include:
- Secure form submission
- Access controls
- Secure file uploads
- Restricted administrator and auditor access
- PDF generation for your records
- Secure email notifications
NZSA is committed to protecting the privacy and security of your audit information throughout the entire audit process.
Most members complete the self-audit in around 15–20 minutes, provided they have completed their site visit and have all required documents and photographs available before starting.
No. The self-audit must be completed in a single session and cannot be saved and resumed later. We recommend reviewing the Getting Started guide before beginning to ensure you have everything you need.
Only complete the sections that relate to the security services your business provides. Where available, select N/A if a question does not apply.
You can upload PDF, DOC/DOCX, and JPG image files. Individual files must be under the site’s maximum upload size (currently 3 MB per file).
If your audit covers guard services or security system installations, a customer site visit is required before starting.
Several questions may require photographs and information about equipment, installations, procedures, and site-specific evidence. Completing the site visit beforehand helps ensure you have the right information ready and can complete the audit in one session.
The site selected should be for one of your major customers. For security system installations, use a recent installation where possible, ideally from within the last six months.
Once submitted, your audit is securely stored within the NZSA website. An authorised auditor is assigned to review your submission, after which NZSA completes the review process and advises you of the outcome.
Yes. A PDF copy of your completed self-audit is emailed to you for your records after submission.
If your auditor requires clarification or additional documentation, you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to return to the relevant section of your audit and provide the requested information.
Once submitted, your audit cannot be edited unless NZSA requests further information as part of the review process.
