NZSA security update – latest Covid advice for businesses

Free RAT kit program expanded
The government has expanded access to free rapid antigen test (RAT) kits. You no longer need to have Covid-19 symptoms to get free kits, and you can pick them up from testing centres, local pharmacies and current community providers, including marae. It’s a good opportunity to encourage your staff to keep RAT kits on hand.

Financial support for businesses
Government funding is still available for businesses facing staff absence due to Covid-19.

The Short Term Absence Payment offers employers $359 per worker (including self-employed) who can’t work while waiting for a Covid-19 test result.

The Leave Support Scheme offers employers funding for workers (including self-employed) who have to self-isolate and can’t work because of Covid-19 – $600 per week for full-time workers and $359 per week for part-time workers.

The Small Business Cash Flow Loan Scheme also offers loans to businesses whose revenue has dropped due to Covid-19, with an interest free period of two years.

Texts are acceptable to confirm sick leave
If an employee tests positive for Covid-19 they’ll receive a text confirmation from the Ministry of Health on 2328 or 2648. To relieve pressure on medical staff you could accept this text message as proof of sick leave rather than asking for a medical certificate.

Managing ventilation in the workplace
Good ventilation has been shown to dramatically reduce the risk of airborne diseases, like Covid-19, travelling within a building.

The government has released updated guidance about how to manage the ventilation and HVAC systems in your building to reduce the risk.
