Mandatory training comes in to effect, any person applying for a certificate of approval or license as a crowd controller, property guard or personal guard must complete the training before their certificate of approval or license can be issued however, these people will be eligible for a temporary license which will allow them to work while they train (temporary license valid for 3 months).

Personal Guards and Crowd Controllers required to hold a Licence or Certificate of Approval.

2 June 2011

Existing Licences and Certificates of Approval issued under the old Act expire – unless you have applied for a new one under the new Act.

1 June 2011

Final date for existing Licence or Certificate of Approval holders to apply and have their existing Licence or Certificate held over while their new applications are processed.

1 May 2011

Applications for Company Licences can be made online.

1 April 2011

New Act commencement.
Mandatory Code of Conduct for surveillance of individuals by Private Investigators introduced (what is in the code was not public at time of writing).
Private Security Personnel Licensing Authority began.
Online applications accepted for Individual Licences and Certificates of Approval – see link below.
Postal applications for a new Licence or Certificate of Approval accepted using downlaodable printable forms but cost more than online applications.
Complaints, Investigation and Prosecution Unit began.

2 March 2011

Private Security Personnel and Private Investigators Act 2010 – This act will come into force on 1st April 2011 – to view the new Act please click here. This Act replaces the Private Investigators and Security Guards Act 1974.
